Counseling for Trauma

Counseling for Trauma

Trauma is exceedingly common. Most people will experience some sort of trauma(s) during their lives.

While we often think of trauma in terms of dramatic events — sexual violence or life-threatening experiences — there are also more common traumas, such as emotional abuse, death of a pet, bullying, or harassment that can have lasting effects as well.

Repeated smaller traumas during childhood and adolescence, while our brains are still developing, can cause ongoing significant emotional distress.

People have different levels of resiliency over their lives, and some recover from trauma with little long-lasting effects; others however can experience lasting challenges and live with fear, confusion, pain, and post-traumatic stress long after the trauma occurred. And one person may bounce back from one trauma and find themselves struggling after experiencing another.

Support and help from a trained therapist can prove pivotal in healing from trauma. With many years of experience working with trauma survivors, as well as overcoming her own personal traumas, Mia uses a trauma-informed approach and is able to guide you to both healing and building resiliency.
